Taken during a street fair in Brooklyn.  This gentleman was in charge of the “Strongman” Carney attraction where virile young men and women attempt to ring a bell by hitting a lever with a rubber sledgehammer.  A little tip, if you want to ring the bell, there’s a trick.  Don’t try to hit the lever flat with the sledgehammer.  You need to strike the corner of the lever pad on the same side you swing (as you face it).  So if you’re right handed, strike the right-hand corner of the pad (if you’re looking straight at it).  That, my friends, is the easiest way to ring the bell.
